Objectives of the School of Informatics and Sciences
Using information to take on the challenges facing humanity
Work has become increasingly specialized and academia has become increasingly segmented with the growth of various industries and the rapid development of society. However, organizations with poor lateral communication that put too much emphasis on specialization become unable to satisfy the needs of society today, where issues are complex and interrelated. Therefore, the sustainable development of organizations and societies, which are collections of people, require people who can understand the languages of a variety of fields to bridge the gaps between them. The School of Informatics and Sciences was founded in 1994 as a pioneering school that combines the humanities with the sciences to meet the needs of today’s society. Two departments, namely the Department of Natural Science Informatics and the Department of Social and Human Science Informatics, were established with the goal of developing people who can mediate between the humanities and the sciences.
